What is the cost difference between Redwood and Trex?
Trex is approximately 1-1/2 - 2 times more, less when you consider stain.
Cost and Maintenance.  Trex is about double the price of redwood decking. 
Maintenance is easy.

What is Trex made of and is it safe?made of?
Trex is very safe to walk on even when wet.  It is made from recycled products
from  Relaimed wood fibers and recycled plastic.

					
Do I want to paint it?
You can paint it but why?  The purpose of it is to not have to paint a surface
over and over yearly or semi yearly.
 
 
What about the need to build the deck and cement the posts in?
Yes.

Fastening the deck Boards, What are my options?
Screws,  use the proper outdoor screws- high quality.  Pre drilling a hole
 is not necessary if using self tapping deck srews.  Although when near
the edges of boards that may have been cut out such as around a deck
rail 4x4, it's best to drill a piot hole before screwing into the board.   The other
 option is to use  hidden fasteners or clips  .  See deck fastener options 
 
What is an average proper step rise?
Usually 8" high and 10" across.
 
How about for support  of  a hot tub?
Yes, but with proper pre planning. Might be best to acquire professional help 
to make sure the under framing is strong enough to support a hot tub.  Make
sure you find out how much gallons will be in the hot tube and the final weight 
of said hot tub and water.
 
How often would I have to seal/stain  wood deck?
Most paint manufacturers will recommend 1-2 years, preferably each year.
It's best to use an oil stain product such as Cabot's stain, or  an Armstrog oil.
